motown

So this morning I successfully dragged myself out of bed and got to the doctors in time (courtesy of a lift from mum) for my 7.40am appointment (also courtesy of mum's booking skills), only to find all the shutters down and no-one there. After about half an hour's grumpy slump in the car listening to Elton John with my hood up and a face on, a receptionist arrived and informed us that my appointment is actually for Wednesday. Brillo pads.

I decided not to achieve anything with the MANY extra hours of my morning, instead retiring to bed to finish the proof copy of Dawn French's new novel I swiped from work (it's great by the way, very funny and endearing). I also finished Stephen Fry's second autobiog; it wasn't bad, I enjoyed it but it wasn't as coherent as his first, less storyish and more anecdotal, and very apologetic. Necessarily so I suppose, as he was writing about a phase in his life when lots and lots of good things were happening... He also wrote a lot about his major insecurity all the time, very sweet and honest. I liked it but there weren't enough little stories about his friends (I wanted more Emma T stuff, I won't lie to you, I thought there'd be loads as there are many photos of her in his photos pages). But never mind, it was v amusing and by no means the worst autobiog I've ever read (Michael Parkinson, stand up!)

I wouldn't say life was going brilliantly at this stage, lots of rubbish family stuff occurring. As Emz and I were saying earlier, life is going to consist of a lot of doom and worry like, from now on. It only gets more complicated and stressful and worrisome the more time passes. This may seem bleak but it is also very definitely true, oh dear oh dear. To be fair I should probably count my blessings that I can also find genuine joy in ridiculous things, like a cuddly panda, or the fact that in the Waterstone's weekly news we were informed that the other day was 'Yom Kipper', and to use this as a sales opportunity, one can only imagine for Jewish fishermen or similar.

Just started reading Zadie Smith's 'On Beauty', you will be treated to my opinion once it is read.

zzzz.
